There will be a Western Rite pilgrimage to Saint Andrew’s Church in Greensted, Essex on Sunday 3rd December 2017 – being Saint Edmund’s Feast Day on the Church Calendar. Saint Edmund, King of East Anglia, and England’s first patron saint, was martyred in 869 AD.
Saint Andrew’s is the oldest extant wooden church in the world and the body of Saint Edmund rested here in 1013 on his way to Bury St. Edmunds for burial. We will meet in the church at 12.30; Holy Mass will begin at around 1 pm; and Mass will be followed by the Litany of the Saints.
